We are a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. Working together with other local businesses, we have created a beautiful park and exciting community-building activities in Flagstaff, Arizona. Our mission is to get everyone out exercising and having fun in nature! We have incorporated these SIX (6) MISSION PILLARS into a unique outdoor recreation experience for all ages:
Physical activity is decreasing amongst all age groups. Obesity rates are climbing and the overall health of our nation is decreasing. The Barefoot Trail offers visitors a chance to unplug and exercise outside in a natural forested environment in a fun way - as an individual, as a family, or as a group. With the increase in heart disease, the medical community encourages us to get out and walk at least 30 minutes every day.
The reflexology path connects visitors directly with the natural ground, stimulating blood flow through pressure points on the feet and increasing our senses throughout the body which improves our physical and mental state. It is recommended to ground every day for 20-30 minutes to reap the benefits of restoring your natural electrical balance, which can be a benefit to reducing stress and inflammation, and sleeping better.
Come and learn about the landscape and geologic history of Coconino County. The city of Flagstaff is one of the most beautiful parts of the Colorado Plateau. We will teach you about the volcanoes, rocks, trees, water, and changes through the millennia that have formed this beautiful landscape for us to enjoy! Incorporating local facts about our land increases awareness, understanding, and sensitivity to our delicate habitats.
The Barefoot Trail encourages students to engage in new and challenging experiences. Utilizing outdoor activities for children can help them in developing positive attitudes, behavioral changes, problem-solving techniques, and promotes development of leadership skills. Outdoor play can impact children of different ages and socio-economic backgrounds. We offer outdoor experiences that are safe, fun, and challenging!
Also known as Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare, Wilderness Therapy is the use of experiential education for individuals or groups in a wilderness setting to help facilitate healing for a range of emotional, developmental, and relational struggles. Studies have found that being outdoors in nature can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.
The Foundation supports and advocates for the protection of the natural environment by preserving the natural ecosystem, vegetation, and wildlife. The Barefoot Trail respects and preserves the land that the trail was built on for recreational use by keeping the land in its most natural state. We have used natural stones, rock, sand, mud, and other organic materials only to enhance the experience with the hope that every visitor can enjoy a fun experience in a very natural environment.
